Hookipa Quickie Photo Shoot

[ updated 3/11 with new facts gleamed from comments ] The trades are back, and for the first time in something like three months, they are both strong and forecast to stick around for at least a week. So just like that, winter gets the boot. And only yesterday we had an all day rain with a cold front slowly crossing the islands. Everything is as emerald green as it gets here, just in time for St Patties day. Another sign of the times... waves are small right now with a moderate to perhaps high episode forecast for Wednesday. After that, not sure but might be back to small. [ actually now it looks like a new swell arrives every 2-3 days or so. Nice! ]

I was going to commiserate more on the passing of winter here, but I'll save that for my next post. After sailing Kanaha overpowered on my 4.7 with dis-organized waist to rare head high waves, Julia and I headed to Hookipa for the post drink on the bluff and watch the pro dudes session. Seems like we haven't done that in forever either. We only caught the last hour or so of action, but enough for some nice shots of Robby, Patrick Bergeron, Russ Faurot, Skyler Haywood, and a few others (and who is on the red Ezzy, yellow Quattro? Answer: Aurelien Nicoul. Very nice sailing ). Anyway, hope you enjoy this quickie photo shoot...

I have never seen so much green on Maui!!! At least not that I can talk about on this forum. Any news on the recent volcanic action on the Big Island? Saw some impressive footage on CNN yesterday. Thanks for the shots Ben.

Gary - hadn't heard much about the eruption until your comment. Looks pretty intense!

Rebecca - your blog is listed in the sidebar under "blogs you should read". It's down a bit - you have to scroll the side bar to see it.
